Purpose of Position :

As a member of the Neys Provincial Park team. under the general supervision of the Park Superintendent — Rainbow Falls/Neys and group leadership of the Assistant Park Superintendent — Neys PP, to carry out a variety of technical, operational, monitoring and group leadership duties for the park interpretive and natural heritage education program.

Duties / Responsibilities :

1. Provides technical, operational, monitoring and group leadership duties for the park interpretive and
natural heritage education programs by:
-organizing, directing and evaluating the park's interpretive program;
-organizing, scheduling and providing recreational and naturalist activities to be featured during the 95% operating season such as guided hikes, guest speakers, slide presentations, children's programs and special events;
-developing and implementing a park's 'extension' program such as visitation from schools, clubs and the general public;
-preparing and submitting news releases, announcements and general information on the park to the local media;
-organizing and preparing displays, exhibits, and local information pamphlets for the park; -collecting and organizing data and statistics as requested;
-preparing annual operating strategies and year end reports;
-participating in interpretive trail development, maintenance and information systems;
-providing aeneral information about the park, surrounding area and activities;
-preparing orders for natural heritage education supplies and making recommendations on equipment purchases;
assigning daily work to natural heritage education staff (i.e. unclassified staff and students) and providing input into staff schedules;
-identifying staff natural heritage education training needs and arranging for training;
-participating in the hiring, and assessment of staff in their natural heritage education work; -ensuring that workers take precautions to protect the health and safety of themselves and others by complying with such acts, codes, policies. procedures or accepted workplace practices as may be appropriate;
-advising workers of actual and potential dangers in the workplace and the required precautions; -working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations and any workplace practices as directed by the employer;
-assisting in the training and leadership of Regular and Summer Experience Program (SEP students; -providing general maintenance such as housekeeping and minor repairs of natural heritage education facilities and picking, up litter;
-promoting user compliance with park rules and regulations;
-acting upon, recording and reporting problems, violations and complaints to the duty officer;
-acting as duty officer as required.

2. Performs other related duties such as:
-assisting other members of the park team during vacation/sickness and peak workload periods; 5% -assisting in other Ministry program areas as required;
-as assigned.

Staffing and Licencing :

Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate. Valid Class 'G' Driver's License.

Knowledge :

Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers including word-processing, record-keeping, internet and e-mail software applications. Good working knowledge of and skills in camping, orienteering and the practices/ techniques of outdoor living. Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those Regulations made under the Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed.

Skills :

Good group leadership, organizational. presentation, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Good mathematical and cash handling skills. Ability to work independently, follow and carry out instructions and work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as per schedule. Physical ability to carry out functions of the position. Ability to operate and maintain audio-visual equipment and cameras.
