Purpose of Position :

To support the maintenance of corporate spatial and tabular data and data bases related to base data activities. To assist in the delivery of the information management activities of the GIB.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Provide Geospatial data support by:

• Investigating and troubleshooting spatial and tabular data issues, determining solutions to rectify data problems and fixing data problems as required to improve data quality.
• Digitizing, scanning, compiling, preparing, processing and updating of data from digital files or hard copy maps to ensure standardized information, common definitions and completeness of data.
• Assisting in the quality control and maintenance of spatial and tabular data to ensure data quality and completeness.
• Researching Crown survey records and current information within the Ontario Surveyor's General office, as well as with MNDM for cadastral boundary information.
• Reviewing digital mapping data to a variety of other records (hard copy or digital data sets to include imagery) to access and document the tabular and spatial accuracy and currency of the data.
• Integrating digital mapping data to include partner and other source data to create a common standard data set.
• Responding to requests for various types of information products; conducting queries and generating reports for project members and management.
• Writing simple scripts for the automation of GIS tasks related to base data activities.

Staffing and Licencing :

The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and any workplace policies, procedures or practices as directed by their immediate supervisor, report all work related injuries and illnesses to their immediate supervisor.

Knowledge :

• Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with non-government clients and partners.
• Familiarity with GIS concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to use Computer Assisted Drafting and Geographical Information Systems including ArcGIS software and its associated modules.
• Job requires knowledge of personal computers/software/hardware (e.g. word processing, database, electronic mail and spreadsheet applications) and peripherals (e.g. plotter, printer).
• General understanding of resource management principles and management techniques.
• Knowledge of provincial land, including basic surveying and cadastral land settlement patterns and history
• Good communication skills.
• Knowledge of workers responsibilities under the OH&S Act.

Skills :

• Experience with digital map production and data management.
• Experience with business applications of CAD and GIS technologies.
• Familiarity with GIS concepts in raster and vector data models, map projections, scale and resolution, accuracy and precision.
• Experience with AutoCad and ArcGIS software and its associated modules, and Windows operating systems.
• Experience with file transfer, Internet technology and network protocols.

Work is performed in accordance with established methods and practical procedures. Work is reviewed for general accuracy and adequacy. Situations not covered by established methods and practical procedures are referred to senior staff.
