Purpose of Position :

To provide support in the form of research, writing, graphics development and website planning for the Ministry of Natural Resources Fish and Wildlife Program.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Provides research, writing, graphics development and website planning support including:

• researching, assessing and writing on diverse fish and wildlife program issues
• interviewing / consulting with various program leads to gather information on fish and wildlife programs
• researching relevant MNR fish, wildlife, biodiversity and environmental background documents and publications
• writing and editing for the intranet and internet
• designing and creating website graphics
• developing knowledge of key aspects of fish and wildlife branch programs and priorities
• assisting with planning and organization of broader fish and wildlife program intranet and internet sites, and
• assisting with preparation of materials for website posting with respect to French Language Services Act and the Ontarians with Disabilities Act

The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor. Report any hazards of which they are aware to their immediate supervisor.

Staffing and Licencing :

Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years.

Knowledge :

Knowledge of plain-language writing techniques and grammar, punctuation and spelling in order to research and write clearly understood documents for the intranet and internet.

Knowledge of research techniques and communication methods and practices.

Job requires broad general knowledge of fish and wildlife management, biodiversity, hunting, fishing, conservation, habitat management, fish and wildlife enforcement and environmental issues.

Knowledge of work responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Skills :

Well developed written communication skills to produce effective communications messages.

Well-developed oral communications skills and proficiency with interviewing techniques.

Research skills to gather and produce clear fish and wildlife messaging for a variety of audiences.

Strong computer skills. Understanding of HTML is an asset

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in order to obtain necessary information to meet project deadlines.

Excellent time management skills to organize workload and meet project plan deliverables.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Freedom of Action :

Position works within procedural controls of ministry and government policies, legislation, manuals, guidelines, directives and established practices and procedures.
Work is regularly reviewed and monitored by senior staff and Manager to ensure project objectives and timelines are met.
