Purpose of Position :

To install, repair, and maintain a range of electrical / electronic, computer-based highway traffic control, monitoring and safety equipment.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Ensure public and personnel safety during installation, maintenance, testing and repairing of electronic / electronic equipment related to highway control systems.

Safe and efficient operation of vehicles, aerial and auguring devices.

Operating and maintaining electronic testing equipment to locate operational problems, identify and execute needed repairs or adjustments, while minimizing the downtime of the equipment or service.

Installing, maintaining, testing, repairing, electrical and / or A.T.M.S. roadway safety devices such as traffic signals, flashers, roadway and sign illumination, navigation lights; lighting, wiring, video and data transmission systems on ministry properties.

Maintaining historic records of equipment repairs and modifications, maintaining work records to Ministry requirements, establishing maintenance records and procedures, requisitioning and or purchasing materials and equipment needed to perform assignments.

Reviewing contracts and inspecting work performed by contractors and staff; providing technical guidance as required.

Training apprentices.

Ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with Ministry Standards, Ontario Hydro Code and local Municipal Regulations, and that all Safety procedures are followed.

Staffing and Licencing :

Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license with ability to get 'DZ' endorsement.

Certificate of Qualification - Electrician Construction and Maintenance with Electronics endorsement (309A or 309D).

Knowledge :

Relevant by-laws, Electrical code, Ministry standards and procedures of Electrical and / or A.T.M.S. systems.

Health and Safety regulations and procedures.

Electrical / electronic blueprint reading.

Operation of aerial and auger equipment.

Electrical / electronics

Working knowledge of computers as a diagnostic tool.

Manual of uniform traffic control devices. (BOOK 7)

Freedom of Action :

Unsupervised 75% - 85% of working hours. Able to accomplish required tasks, efficiently and safely to eliminate and/or reduce liability to the ministry.

Able to decide when to call another T.S.E.T. / Foreman / or Supervisor due to dangerous conditions to traveling public or self and due to greater costs and/or time spent accomplishing required tasks.
