What can I expect to do in this role?

Make the most of your experience and bilingual skills in this role with the Ministry of Educations Centre Jules-Léger School for the Deaf, providing supervision, guidance, intervention and instruction for deaf students in planned and organized programs in a residential setting. You will: plan, organize and implement customized individual/group programs designed to meet the personal, emotional and developmental needs of students using a multidisciplinary approach; supervise, guide and instruct residential students; provide sound physical care and maintain a safe, secure environment for residents. This is a recurring, seasonal position, from September to June.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Community college certificate and/or equivalent training, education and experience in a child-related field and experience working with deaf students; demonstrated ability to facilitate effective social, recreational and leisure programs geared to meet the needs of deaf students; knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and practices that address student care and safety; excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals in French and English (oral and written) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ); sound judgment and problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team; current first aid, CPR and crisis prevention intervention training; willingness and ability to work shifts. Note: The successful candidate will be required to provide an original, satisfactory criminal reference check, including vulnerable sector screening (dated within the last six months), as deemed suitable by the employer, prior to the commencement of employment.
