The Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) requires a seasoned investigator to plan, conduct and report with recommendations on the results of specialized investigations conducted in French and English under the authority of its legal mandate.

You will: independently conduct, lead or participate in highly sensitive complaint investigations from inception to completion; develop investigation approaches, investigative tools and plans of action; manage cases in compliance with prescribed requirements; co-ordinate with third parties; provide impartial, thorough and timely analyses, reports, options and recommendations; conduct certain conciliation initiatives; maintain case management files and database; prepare management briefing notes and input to presentations; provide expertise, information and explain results of findings to support internal and external follow-up activities; participate in investigation-related committees, planning, review and problem-solving.


Qualifications:proficiency in English as well as oral and written proficiency in French at the advanced level; demonstrated ability to plan, execute and deliver impartial, accurate and complete investigation gathering, analyses, reports and recommendations; thorough knowledge and understanding of the structure of Ontario`s police organizations, public perception and expectations of police, and specific public issues regarding police behaviour in Ontario; proven ability to ensure investigations comply with related legislation, regulations, rules, precedents and operational policy framework; sound skills in applying appropriate case resolution techniques; proficiency with common office software (MS Office, internet, email) and customized databases (case tracking); demonstrated impartiality; proven ability to gather and interpret evidence, ensuring validity, reliability and completeness; proven ability to ensure quality and compliance of investigations as well as identify and explain details of evidence; proven ability to apply situationally appropriate case resolution techniques including identifying and assessing trends and patterns requiring further investigation; superior planning, analysis and evaluation skills to plan and conduct efficient and effective concurrent investigations; ability to manage diverse business relationships and liaise effectively with complainants, witnesses, specialists and representatives of police agencies; proven ability to conduct investigatory interviews and discussions; ability to explain investigation principles, needs, approach, findings, interpretation, analysis of evidence and theories about each investigation; proven ability to provide team leadership for other internal and external investigators including on the job mentoring; availability for regular frequent travel, including overnight stays.
