As a registered Psychologist, make your contribution at the Ministry of Children and Youth Services where you will provide professional psychological services at the Cecil Facer Youth Centre, a secure custody/detention facility.

This post will require you to design, supervise, implement and evaluate psychological services and programs for the male and female youth within a case management framework, provide direct assessment and treatment services to youth, including diagnostic interviews, psychological assessments, risk assessments (e.g. violence, suicide, self harm) and cognitive/intellectual functioning assessment. You will make diagnoses, recommend and apply appropriate treatment interventions, provide crisis intervention services, effectively manage psychology staff (including recruitment, selection, orientation, discipline, performance evaluations) and coordinate the activities of the department. Developing, organizing, and conducting program evaluation and research and well as providing advice to and consult with staff, facility senior management and other stakeholders will also be within your scope, along with administering annual department budget and writing formal assessment reports and correspondence.

Qualifications:Proficiency in English and advanced level oral French; Doctorate in Psychology; registration as a Psychologist, in good standing, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; progressively responsible supervisory and administrative skills; demonstrated planning, analytical and organizational skills; knowledge of theory and practices of psychology, current rehabilitative practices and theories applicable to male and female youth, usually acquired through demonstrated experience as a Psychologist in a rehabilitative environment; knowledge of psychological assessment and treatment techniques and their application to a male and female youth population, including application and interpretation of assessment instruments; communication skills; knowledge of professional standards (e.g. consent to treatment, care and retention of records; limits to privacy/confidentiality) and relevant legislation such as Health Disciplines Act, Mental Health Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Privacy legislation; knowledge of computer programs.
