Looking for an exciting opportunity to help protect Ontarians from exposure to second-hand smoke?

The Ministry of the Health Promotion seeks an exceptional team player with strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to work with public health units in coordinating compliance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will: coordinate development and delivery of program standards, including scopes of service, protocols, and directives; lead development of operational enforcement policies; monitor program delivery, including education, inspections and prosecution activity, and report on program activity. The position also requires program leadership to develop and implement an electronic Tobacco Inspection System; and to chair the monthly Enforcement Task Group of regional enforcement representatives. You will also be required to participate in educational activities, prepare technical reports, plans and briefing materials; negotiate program practices, and to communicate program information and expectations with health unit management and staff.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

expertise in tobacco control and compliance management. Knowledge of the Smoke Free of Ontario Act and knowledge of prosecution issues to work with public health units, prosecutors and legal counsel. Thorough knowledge of legislation, policies, court and legal processes related to the Smoke Free of Ontario and enforcement programs; political acuity, excellent interpersonal skills to work with colleagues, health units and stakeholders in developing consensus on operational policies and arising issues. Judgment and tact are also needed to address legal and program implications; project management and planning skills to play a leadership role in implementing an operational inspection system. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Awareness of issues faced by local enforcement programs. Knowledge of electronic inspection systems, including current and potential uses; excellent communication skills. Superior consultative, negotiation and leadership skills; financial and procurement experience to plan, develop and manage contractual agreements and monitor and evaluate programs to ensure fiscal accountability.
