The Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs (MAA), Performance Measures and Data Unit in the Strategic Policy and Planning Division seeks a highly skilled professional to perform policy related work including research, analysis and reporting to support performance measurement with respect to Aboriginal affairs, policies, programs and initiatives in Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Working in a vibrant, fast-paced team environment, you will:
• conduct comprehensive reviews and analysis of proposed policy changes on existing Aboriginal legislation and regulations
• conduct research and analysis to support project activities
• prepare discussion papers and reports, policy presentation materials and briefing notes
• conduct and maintain effective relationships and partnerships within and beyond the Ministry
• provide advice on policy projects to MAA senior management and colleagues
• prepare documentation for project management activities including research alternatives, resource requirements and impact analysis

How do I qualify?

Technical knowledge:

You have:
• knowledge of policy/research, evaluation/performance measurement methodology, scanning, trends analysis and forecasting
• sound knowledge of policy development, policy analysis and evaluation techniques
• knowledge of Aboriginal organizations, history, culture and ability to interpret and apply related legislation regarding Aboriginal Affairs
• knowledge of specialized software (e.g., SPSS, SAS), standard word processing, spreadsheets, databases, project management and presentation software to maintain and analyze information and produce high quality reports and presentation

Research, analytical and problem solving skills:

You have:
• demonstrated research, analytical and problem solving skills to anticipate, analyze, monitor and assess complex and large scale issues
• the ability to prepare risk analyses and practical options and solutions

Communication and relationship management skills:

You have:
• verbal and written communication skills to provide clear and comprehensive information and advice
• the ability to prepare policies, reports, briefing notes, Cabinet Submissions and presentations
• effective relationship management skills to foster effective partnerships and integrated networks

Project management and team building skills:

You have:
• project management and team building skills to participate on multiple and concurrent projects
• the ability to chart and monitor project activities and meet conflicting deadlines
