Sioux Lookout has a population of approximately 5,200 located on the CN main line and hub to 14 First Nation communities to the far north. Sioux Lookout offers a public and separate primary school system and a secondary school. The community has excellent recreation facilities – arena/fitness centre, golf & curling club, fishing & hunting opportunities. Medical facilities include two hospitals, medical clinic and dental services. Churches of most denominations are represented. The town is serviced by Hwy 72 off of the TransCanada Highway and by the second busiest airport in northwestern Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

If data technology and resource management are your passions, consider joining the Ministry of Natural Resources and put your technical and administrative skills to great use. In this rewarding role, you will provide for the development, implementation and maintenance of geographic information systems (GIS) and data management for the district as well as provide customer service to internal and external clients.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

knowledge of operating systems, database systems, GIS products, network systems and communication software; knowledge of data analysis, database design, programming languages and application software; knowledge of programming principles and of structured and object oriented programming; strong planning, coordinating, group leadership and project management skills; strong analytical, research, problem-solving, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to install software products and updates, install and maintain hardware and peripheral devices as well as perform security functions and routines; ability to manage the data life cycle as well as develop and maintain data sharing agreements; good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and those regulations made under the Act that apply to the workplace and the work being performed.
