Join a dedicated team of multi-disciplinary professionals across the province that set, communicate and enforce occupational health and safety legislation across Ontario.What can I expect to do in this role?You will:• enforce the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations in workplaces• conduct inspections, investigations and quality assurance assessments• provide professional advice to staff and management• gather evidence and prepare engineering reports• act as an expert witness in court and as an occupational health and safety expert/advisor in the field• issue orders, and promote safe working practices and conditions with workplace parties via the Internal Responsibility System (IRS)How do I qualify?Mandatory• you must be a registered Professional Engineer licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario within three months of the posting date of this job advertisement• degree in civil engineering with structural specialization• valid driver's license and ability to travel within service area• ability to work after hours/on callTechnical Expertise• strong background in structural analysis in a variety of systems and equipment used in construction projects such as multi-point scaffold system (MPSS), mobile and Tower cranes elevating work platforms• experience evaluating the structural integrity of systems/components subjected to static and dynamic loads, construction methods and machinery• expert knowledge and extensive experience in structural engineering including discipline-related theories, principles and practices including those related to occupational health and safety• ability to keep up to date on trends and developments in engineering and the health and safety field• ability to identify hazards and contraventions of legislation, apply concepts of risk reduction using protective measures/devices and provide authoritative, reliable and defensible assessments/advice and recommendationsCommunication Skills• well developed interpersonal skills with experience in consulting, advisory and relationship management skills• ability to communicate complex technical and professional matters clearly and tactfully in stressful situationsOther General Skills• ability to plan and manage an often unpredictable workload• ability to plan and undertake high level, complex engineering inspections and investigations• ability to interpret and enforce legislation and expert knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations in workplaces• proficiency in using computer and relative software to produce engineering and other analysis, reports and a variety of materials
