Bring your strong concrete/chemical engineering knowledge and technical expertise to this exciting opportunity with the Highway Standards Branch.
What can I expect to do in this role?
You will: • coordinate and participate in investigations and projects related to the evaluation of innovative systems, new products, materials and equipment (e.g. new pavement marking materials and concrete rehabilitation treatments) • make appropriate and effective recommendations for the ministry's present and future operational needs • develop and update existing policies, standards, specifications and operating guidelines related to concrete and chemical products • lead and manage multiple projects and activities, and balance conflicting priorities • provide technical supervision to technicians, contractors and consultants on a project specific basis • direct assigned laboratory and field studies of a research/ investigative nature • carry out testing and assessment activities in the field and during construction operations, maintaining all appropriate safety standards
How do I qualify?
Mandatory • you are licensed by Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
Technical Knowledge and Expertise: • you have demonstrated knowledge of the theories and principles of materials science/engineering and familiarity with concrete, corrosion or chemical engineering practice • you understand physical and chemical testing techniques, procedures and equipment, applicable to engineering materials, including those related to analysis of corrosion • you have knowledge of construction materials, manufactured products and construction techniques related to highway structures and pavements • you have awareness of pertinent government specifications, standards and special provisions related to chemical products and construction materials • you have experience monitoring the quality and performance of new developments in concrete corrosion protection systems and technologies (i.e. testing, troubleshooting, construction, repair and maintenance practices) • you have experience using test methods and equipment to measure corrosion and concrete engineering properties • you can develop policies, standards and quality requirements for acceptance of services, materials, products and processes for MTO contracts • you understand occupational health and safety related regulations and requirements (i.e. WHMIS, MSDS)
Project Management and Coordination Skills: • you can manage projects and execute engineering investigations and research, conduct evaluations and analytical work • you can resolve unique and/or highly complex design issues, construction maintenance and performance problems
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: • you communicate effectively and can prepare and present complex, technical information in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences (i.e. senior management, field staff, industry, service and product suppliers, and technical committees) • you can establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Computer Skills: • you are proficient in various computer software applications and databases (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, manipulation of digital images etc.)
