We are seeking a team-oriented individual with strong GIS skills and an understanding of land tenure to provide advice and direction to clients with respect to the staking of unpatented mining claims and other land related tenure.What can I expect to do in this role?In this fast-paced environment, you will:• review and verify applications to record unpatented mining claims through a variety of sources such as Crown Land Registry, Office of the Surveyor General, Ministry of Natural Resources, Land Registry Offices• transpose spatial information in an automated claim mapping system (ACMS)• provide routine and general guidance and information to external clients relative to the staking of unpatented mining claims and other land related tenure issues• provide assistance to team members on projects and tasks with emphasis on Geographic Information System (GIS) issues• provide technical support to internal staff in the resolution of claim staking issues• organize and maintain land roll filesHow do I qualify?Technical skills and knowledge:• working knowledge of GIS applications and principles, practices, and techniques, including ArcGIS, Arcview and peripheral equipment such as digitizers, scanners and printers• working knowledge of computer systems, internet, and software such as Microsoft Office Suite• knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply land related legislation and regulations (e.g. Mining Act, Staking Regulations)• familiar with confidentiality requirements and can apply the Freedom of Information and Protection of Personal Privacy Act.General skills and knowledge:• excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills to research, analyze and evaluate information to recommend solutions and procedures to clients and staff• demonstrated communication skills both orally and in writing to provide information and guidance to clients and prepare general correspondence • good conflict resolution skills to deal with irate clients and resolve problematic situations• organization, planning and coordination skills to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines and heavy workload in a fast-paced environmentNote: This competition may be used to fill similar positions.
