The Food Inspection Branch seeks a highly motivated individual with food safety expertise.What can I expect to do in this role?In this role, you will: • coordinate and administer the meat plant audit program and act as a liaison with service providers• provide ongoing technical support to Meat Inspection Program staff related to the meat plant audit program• provide leadership and scientific input into the development, maintenance and enforcement of food safety regulations and industry guidance • coordinate research, analysis and communications for meat food safety and animal welfare issues, acting as a regulatory resource specialist to inspection staff and industry organizations on meat production issues• develop recommendations and present potential impacts and consequences of regulatory amendments and guidance to industry pertaining to the meat processing industry• participate on multidisciplinary working groups and contribute expertise to assist in the development of regulations, standards, procedures and programs • prepare and deliver presentations to ministry management, at public meetings or industry association gatheringsHow do I qualify?Industry knowledge:• knowledge of food safety legislation and regulations in Ontario, and the related animal welfare legislation and regulations including the principles and practices associated with inspection and compliance• knowledge of the meat processing industry• knowledge of Ontario's Meat Plant Audit Program • knowledge of the livestock production and meat processing industries• knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and similar risk management programsImportant skills:• organizational skills to coordinate and administer an audit program including acting as a liaison to the contracted service provider• oral and written communications skills to explain complex information in practical terms• interpersonal skills to develop and maintain collaborate relationships with ministry colleagues, industry organization representatives and other government staff • proficiency with a variety of computer software applications (e.g. word processing, internet, spreadsheet, etc.)
