Consider this challenging opportunity in the Superior and/or Ontario Court of Justice as a temporary, irregularly-scheduled court recording monitor, where you will record court proceedings verbatim using electronic monitoring equipment and produce transcripts.What can I expect to do in this role?In this position, you will be responsible for operating electronic monitoring equipment to accurately record court proceedings; maintaining a written log of proceedings; providing playback in court; preparing verbatim transcripts of court proceedings on request and indexing and filing court records.Please note: transcripts are prepared on incumbent's own time with own equipment within prescribed timelines and will receive a prescribed fee.How do I qualify?Mandatory requirements:• typing skills to 50 words per minute (testing will be carried out prior to interviews)• job may require candidate to work overtime, weekends, and statutory holidaysOrganizational skills:• accuracy and attention to detail• ability to multi-task in a high demand work environment to meet strict deadlinesKnowledge:• ability to research case law and understand legal terminology to complete transcripts• knowledge of relevant provincial and federal acts to understand the nature of court proceedings• computer literacy to accurately key information and maintain formatting standards for the production of transcripts• ability to operate various electronic recording and transcription devicesCommunication and interpersonal skills:• proficiency in English oral and written communication skills• ability to speak publicly in a courtroom setting• judgement, discretion and confidentiality in dealing with judiciary, counsel and the public
