If so, then consider joining the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as a Meat Hygiene Officer where you will conduct food safety and regulatory compliance inspections of provincially licensed meat processing plants.What can I expect to do in this role?• conduct inspections of live animals including cattle, hogs, poultry, small ruminants and exotic species according to established procedures;• oversee slaughter and conduct post-mortem inspection of carcasses according to established procedures;• monitor plant activities and conduct daily assessments, ensuring that practices for safe food handling and disposal have been followed; and,• monitor food processing operations and enforce compliance with packaging and labeling requirements.How do I qualify?Mandatory• You are able to travel extensively to areas where public transportation is not available• You are able to perform duties in adverse conditions such as extreme heat or coldEssential Skills• You have analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate situations and develop recommendations for resolution• You have communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal/external staff and clients and resolve issues as they arise• You have conflict resolution skills to achieve compliance or diffuse difficult situations; ability to deal with difficult individuals in a professional manner• You have computer skills to work with various applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook• You have experience assessing compliance with established standards, guidelines or proceduresKnowledge• You have knowledge or experience interpreting and enforcing federal or provincial legislation• You have knowledge of the principles of food safety, hygienic handling and food processingAdditional Information• Candidates who have not successfully completed the Ontario Meat Hygiene Officer Certification process will be considered on an underfill basis as an Agricultural Specialist 2 with a salary range of $988.95 to $1,159.93.
