Challenging opportunities exists in our central ambulance communications centre.What can I expect to do in this role?We are seeking dedicated individuals to: • work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment• process 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance service• direct ambulance movements• provide pre-arrival instructions• communicate with individuals under stress• operate complex computer-aided telecommunications equipmentRequires working on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of number of hours worked.How do I qualify?Mandatory Skills:• You have keyboarding skills to 35 wpm with 90% accuracy• You have valid standard first-aid and CPR certificateCritical Skills:• You have multi-tasking, organizational and memory recall skills with the ability to coordinate a variety of activities and resources, work under pressure and maintain control of situation• You have decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to use judgment to assess problems and make decisions and to interpret and apply policies, procedures and/or informationGeneral Skills:• You have interpersonal and communication skills • You are able to handle situations in a professional manner • You have leadership skills to take initiative and give direction • You are proficient with computer software• You have abilities with spatial concepts (time/distance/resource equations and read/understand maps)Only candidates who clearly identify they meet these qualifications will be considered.Job offers will be conditional upon obtaining:• Satisfactory criminal record check• Valid standard first-aid and targeted responder CPR certificate• Successful completion of computer-based training followed by Ambulance Communications Officer provincial certification• Restricted Radio Operator certification, and • Successful completion of on-the-job training.
