Consider this unique career opportunity to enjoy a great level of independence while being a front-line representative of a very important organization.Your fire protection and safety expertise are sought by the Office of the Fire Marshal to monitor fire protection services and provide support to municipalities.What can I expect to do in this role?In this challenging position, your role will include:- Analyzing issues and trends associated with municipal fire protection and safety- Liaising with other ministries and agencies such as municipalities, professional organizations, police services personnel, emergency responders, aboriginal organizations and stakeholders in emergency and non-emergency situations- Advising on the application of relevant legislation- Making recommendations to improve fire service programs- Providing coaching, mentoring and training- Conducting problem-solving, conflict resolution and continuous improvement- Supporting projects and initiatives.How do I qualify?Mandatory- You must be able to travel within Ontario and work unconventional hours (i.e. a flexible schedule that will include some evening meetings, as well as work on Holidays and weekends).- You must have a minimum valid driver's licence class of “G” or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.- You must possess oral and written French language skills at the advanced level.Your demonstrable knowledge of fire protection and prevention will include:- Knowledge of all areas of fire protection.- Proven understanding of municipal fire service delivery systems and practices.- Effective abilities in interpretation and application of legislation, including the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 and other relevant legislation, standards and codes.Your demonstrable consultation, oral communication and negotiation skills include:- Proven oral communication and consultation skills to provide effective guidance and advice to stakeholders.- Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills to mediate disputes and resolve problems.- You have also demonstrated that you can work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders and officials.Your program management, evaluation and other essential skills include:- Proven research and analytical skills to evaluate program effectiveness, assess risks and gather information.- Well developed problem-solving skills and ability to recommend effective solutions.- Proven written communication and computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and email.- Project and time management skills to prioritize, plan and manage competing day-to-day demands.
