The Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT) is a highly specialized adjudicative Tribunal that hears appeals of final decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. WSIAT's Tribunal Counsel Office (TCO) requires a highly motivated individual to provide administrative support to Tribunal staff who process post hearing and complex appeals.What can I expect to do in this role?As a TCO Administrative Assistant, you will: • transcribe letters, memoranda and complex legal documents from dicta and/or written instructions• prepare case materials for hearings • prepare materials for judicial review applications and other court proceedings• prepare medical consent forms and review packages• coordinate medical appointments for injured workers with medical specialists, follow up with hospitals and doctors to obtain reports and pay invoices, arrange interpretation services as required• update resource materials • make travel arrangements• coordinate special functions• input/update information in a customized case management systemHow do I qualify?Office Administrative Knowledge and Skills:• You have knowledge of medical/legal terminology to compose or transcribe documents which contain a variety of complex medical and legal terminology• You have knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act or the ability to acquire this knowledge, in order to ensure consistent application to work• You have demonstrated litigation experience in preparing documents to be filed with the courts, including experience performing work tasks such as preparation of affidavits, notices, factums, or other legal documents• You have demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in order to review documents for consistency and established practices and parametersCommunication and Interpersonal Skills• You have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to interact with internal clients, co workers, other government officials, parties to the appeal, and the general public• You have strong oral/written communication skills to compose documents, answer queries, and effectively explain specific detailed matters to internal or external parties• You have excellent grammar/spelling skills to compose and prepare correspondence for internal and external parties• You have the ability to work both independently and as part of a teamComputer Skills:• You have advanced typing/dicta skills to transcribe and type letters, memoranda, legal documents and submissions from dictaphone, hand-written materials or oral instructions • You have experience using computerized case management systems, Microsoft word processing, Outlook and spreadsheet packages in order to perform various tasks such as preparing legal documents, producing statistical data, and updating tracking systemsOrganizational Skills:• You have excellent organizational skills to assign prioritize and complete work in a timely manner• You have the ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and work with detailed and complex documents
