E.g. basic food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, sweeping floors, washing dishes, recycling, unpacking deliveries.• Prepare food list requirements and ensure supply orders are correct• Assist with ensuring food is properly cooked and distributed on time• Assist with offering alternative meals to individuals with special dietary needs• Maintain the cookery in a clean and orderly fashion• Assist with cooking and preparing foods appropriate to the program in accordance with Canada's Health Food Guide• Position requires lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulationsHow do I qualify?MandatorySome positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.Some positions may require the successful candidate(s) to undergo a personal security screening check as a condition of employment.Skills:The following skills will be developed on the job:Communication and Organization Skills• Ability to deal tactfully with staff in high volume environments Technical Skills• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a kitchen and cookery for large groups of people• Knowledge of safe food handling practices and techniques• Knowledge of food preparation practices• You will be provided with training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Interpersonal, Team-work and Other Skills• Strong organizational, group leadership and communication skills• Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlinesOther Requirements and Work Habits• Ability to work in an Kitchen environment with some physical activity involved, including lifting and carrying weighted items in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and Workplace Health and Safety regulations• Ability and comfort in operating small equipment such as: dish washer and cleaning equipment. • Following directions and seeking clarification• Being punctual• Ability to work flexible hours and some weekends to provide and assist with the preparation of three (3) meals per day
