What can I expect to do in this role?• As the Planning Intern you will assist in providing resource management planning with regards to Crown land management, natural heritage, forest and water management, renewable energy and municipal planning. You will provide advice and information as part of the delivery of an integrated planning and resource management program in Fort Frances District. • This position requires a dynamic individual to assist with the review of land use and resource management policy documents and plans, development proposals and environmental assessments. The job will require working with a multidisciplinary team as well as local municipalities, industry, First Nations and Aboriginal groups, non-government organizations and other government agencies.How do I qualify?Mandatory• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years; and• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements.Knowledge and Skills• Understanding of legislation, policies, principles and practices governing land use planning, resource management planning, water management planning, renewable energy, environmental assessment and the Environmental Bill of Rights.• Knowledge of natural resource management and ecosystem management theory, principals and practices• Ability to research, analyze and assess often complex and diverse issues, with attention to detail• Communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to work in and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team is required. As well, knowledge and understanding of effective public involvement. • Computer literacy (word processing, database, spreadsheets, presentation software), internet capabilities and GIS applications• Valid Class “G” Driver's License and ability to travel occasionally to locations throughout OntarioNote: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
