What can I expect to do in this role?

As the Planning Biologist Intern you will assist the Timmins District Planning Biologist and District Planner with biological and ecological information collection, management, analysis and reporting for the purpose of natural resource planning and management.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory
• Proof of eligibility to in Canada.
• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years.
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements.

Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of biology and ecology including conservation biology and the natural sciences.
• Knowledge of current natural resource inventory, monitoring, and assessment techniques with regard to natural landscapes, wildlife habitat, geology, water quality and quantity, and other values.
• Knowledge of resource management planning processes, including, but not limited to water management, forest management, land use and protected area planning as well as the legislative and planning tools that support these processes.
• Organizational, analytical, problem solving skills and oral and written communication skills to communicate a variety of information.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Working knowledge of standard personal computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet browsers and geographic information systems and mapping.


Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
