If so, the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services has an opportunity for you to provide leadership in establishing the division as a centre of excellence for a multidisciplinary field that includes correctional officers, firefighters and police officers.

As the Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Safety Training Division, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic direction, executive leadership and authoritative decision making to deliver the best public service training in Canada. Your ability to connect across a horizontal stakeholder group will engage and ensure successful relationships with internal and external partners. The successful candidate will be able to communicate a compelling vision and secure stakeholder buy-in while promoting alliances and coalitions on a municipal, national and international level.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this key executive leadership role, this position will be responsible for:


• Ensuring alignment of the ministries' long term vision and direction with the planning and implementation of an integrated service delivery model across the Ontario Correctional Services College, Ontario Fire College and Ontario Police College.

• Championing the building of a new integrated division, training model and management strategy that builds and fosters networks with learners and their representative organizations.

• Developing and leveraging partnerships with key stakeholders in the ministry, other ministries and other levels of government.

• Ensuring the development and introduction of new and advanced innovations in learning, new technologies and best practices for professional training.

• Leading the division to ensure structures, systems and processes are designed in a way that ensures the successful implementation of modernization and transformation.

• Creating and fostering a teamwork environment that encourages all employees to work collaboratively and cooperatively to promote a healthy, rewarding and productive work environment.

• Participating in Ministry strategic planning and decision making.

• You are a senior executive who has significant experience maneuvering in a public sector environment.
• You have experience leading and motivating high-performing and diverse teams.
• You are a transformational thinker that can plan strategically and communicate a strategic view to those around you.
• You understand the principles of leadership and have demonstrated that you can think and plan strategically.

Change Management
• You recognize the need for change and challenge to the status quo.
• You have demonstrated experience in leading and effecting change.
• You have experience defining, communicating and enabling a vision for change.
• You can engage internal and external stakeholders to achieve a vision for change.
• You anticipate and deal effectively with resistance to change.
• You utilize your networks of internal/external partners to identify areas of common ground and implementation issues.
• You can quickly gain an understanding of the unique characteristics and needs of the organization.

Relationship Management/Communications
• You work collaboratively with existing partners and develop relationships with new stakeholders such as task forces, committees and working groups inside and outside the Ontario Public Service.
• You have experience dealing with diverse and influential stakeholders.
• You are able to work across divisions and organizations with senior leaders to achieve results.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills and experience dealing positively with others, including in highly stressful situations.
• You are skilled at providing advice and briefings regarding issues, negotiations and agreements.

Judgement, Tact and Political Acuity
• You have political acuity to anticipate and respond to politically sensitive situations.
• You have flexibility and are open to new ideas that adapt to a changing environment.
• You understand political issues and nuances to understand and address problems, opportunities or political forces that affect the organization.
