Do you have an interest in providing input and recommendations on the development of policies, strategies, and issues related to Aboriginal energy resource development projects and initiatives in Ontario?

If so, then consider this opportunity to work in the First Nations and Métis Policy and Partnerships Section with the Ministry of Energy.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

• provide research, analysis, and policy advice in support of Aboriginal energy resource development projects/initiatives
• plan and conduct economic and financial analysis and research
• identify issues that could have implications on Aboriginal communities and initiatives
• provide policy advice regarding strategic policy interests as they relate to Aboriginal energy resource developments and other ministry initiatives
• prepare Cabinet and Treasury Board submissions, briefing materials, discussion/position papers, reports, presentations, etc.
• establish a network of contacts and manage working relationships with all partners and stakeholders including Aboriginal communities

How do I qualify?

Technical knowledge:

• knowledge of the theories, practices and techniques of policy, economics, finance, and regulation to assist in policy development projects and ministry initiatives
• knowledge of economic, statistical and research principles, practices and techniques to consider economic and legislative implications for policy development

Interpersonal and communication skills:

• proven communications skills to discuss ministry policy and programs, and prepare/present discussion papers, reports, briefing notes, presentations, correspondence and spreadsheets
• consultation and interpersonal skills to present information and advice on Aboriginal energy resource development/initiatives and represent the office on intra-ministerial committees, meetings, and work groups

Aboriginal awareness:

• political awareness and historical background of Aboriginal issues and culture to better understand communities' priorities and options
• ability to interpret and apply ministry, federal, provincial, and U.S. legislation and regulatory practices to interpret legislation and regulations relevant to Aboriginal energy resource developments

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

• issues management and problem-solving skills to identify issues or events that could impact Aboriginal communities and to debrief senior staff and managers on issues
• ability to compile, analyze, and interpret research information, and to plan and conduct economic and financial analysis

Planning and organizational skills:

• planning, organizational, and coordination skills to create research plans and manage projects
