Our ministry has a complex province-wide framework for addressing spills and drinking water emergencies. We are looking for a professional with a strong background and experience in the areas of emergency management, business continuity and security to ensure the continued delivery of critical ministry services in the event of an environmental emergency.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Act as the Emergency Management Program Coordinator
• Provide emergency response procedural and policy advice and recommendations to senior management
• Participate in a range of provincial emergency planning and preparedness efforts
• Lead the delivery of annual exercises to test emergency response, continuity of operations, security and contingency planning plans and procedures
• Serve as a ministry representative on key inter-agency/provincial committees and response organizations

How do I qualify?

Emergency Management and Contingency Planning Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the principles, policies, guidelines, and standards related to Emergency and Security Management approaches and implementation
• You can implement policy making and program development methods, techniques and strategies and consultative processes to lead the development of ministry-wide emergency management program
• You can accurately interpret and apply related legislation (e.g. Emergency Management Act, Fire Code, Ontario Health and Safety Act, and Emergency Response Directives) normally acquired in part through certification in Continuity of Operations Planning or equivalent experience
• You are well-versed in contingency planning principles and practices, business continuity planning and hazard identification and risk assessment related to environmental emergencies

Environmental Management Knowledge

• You know the theories, principles and practices of environmental management and response
• You can interpret and apply a broad range of environmental legislation, regulations, policies, procedures (e.g. Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Pesticides Act as well as the Canadian EPA and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations) and Ontario spills legislation

Communication, Negotiation, and Relationship-Building Skills

• You can communicate complex technical details in a clear manner to a non-technical audience
• You engage in effective consultation and negotiation activities to bring together stakeholders and clients
• You can build good relationships to generate strong partnerships

Leadership, Issues and Project Management, and Analytical Skills

• You have strong management and leadership skills to motivate staff to achieve results that meet ministry needs
• You can manage issues as they arise and develop a course of action for resolution
• You have experience managing and coordinating projects
• You demonstrate a strong ability to analyze and solve problems to develop strategic solutions to organizational challenges
