The ministry works with government and community partners to develop and implement policies, programs and a service system that helps give children the best possible start in life, prepare youth to become productive adults and make it easier for families to access the services they need at all stages of a child's development.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As Assistant Director and Senior Manager of Strategic Communications Planning, you will:

• Lead the planning, development and implementation of communications strategies to support the ministry's business objectives

• Work with the Director in the development of strategic communications activities and Branch initiatives

• Oversee a team of communications professionals responsible for developing communications advice and strategies, speeches, news releases, background materials, and website content

• Represent the Branch at senior level meetings and briefings with the Minister, Deputy Minister, and officials from other ministries

• Develop effective business relationships with partners within and external to the ministry to support the planning, delivery, coordination and evaluation of communications products and supports

• You have demonstrated experience leading, engaging and motivating a diverse team to deliver high quality results with a commitment to customer service.
• You have proven change management skills and can foster an environment of high performance and continuous improvement,
• You have the capacity to manage a heavy workload and delivering results under tight timelines

Relationship Management and Communications Skills

• You use effective communication, negotiation and conflict management skills to build credibility and consensus with colleagues, stakeholders and senior leaders
• You have keen political acuity to manage complex, high-profiles and highly sensitive issues
• You have experience in managing the development of sophisticated communications materials that are written in plain, clear concise language
• You have proven experience managing complex relationships which include multiple internal as well as external stakeholders and can demonstrate senior level influencing ability.
• You have demonstrated experience using consultative techniques to build strong linkages with your partners and demonstrated experience communicating sensitive information to stakeholders.

Technical Knowledge

• You have in-depth knowledge and experience with contemporary communications theories, principles and practices and specialized knowledge and experience in communications planning, product development and management
• You have proven executive –level project management skills to coordinate and monitor multiple projects and initiatives
• You have demonstrated experience in financial and human resources including budget management, recruitment, employee learning and development, performance reviews coaching and mentoring and employee relations matters
