The Ministry of Transportation is seeking a senior leader for the Transportation Safety Division, who can showcase creative, analytical and transformative skills to lead a large, complex division in an evidence and outcome-based working environment to deliver on a comprehensive transportation safety mandate.

Your Influence

In this large geographically-dispersed ministry, you will work to improve the mobility and safety of Ontario's transportation system. You will lead the development of transportation safety programs, policies and services that contribute to the province's successful safety record by improving road safety and mobility through the promotion and regulation of responsible driving behaviour.

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) will also oversee all matters relating to highway traffic within Ontario as the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for Ontario by monitoring, educating, promoting and regulating responsible driving behaviour and vehicle safety, promoting pedestrian and cycling safety, and enforcing commercial motor vehicle laws.

You will be a central figure in the OPS-wide policy, operations and regulatory communities, and you will be part of a national team of transportation safety authorities. As a member of the ministry's executive team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the ministry, working within an integrated and collaborative environment to ensure Ministry objectives are achieved.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the ADM of the Transportation Safety Division you will be responsible for:

• Overall executive leadership and direction for transportation safety and legislative enforcement, strategic programs and operational policies for driver and vehicle licensing and registration and the promotion of transportation safety.
• Executive leadership and oversight to the provision of: customer facing services and regulatory driver licensing functions to meet the holistic needs of Ontarians; province-wide commercial vehicle services through comprehensive inspection, enforcement and educational programs that ensure compliance with provincial and federal transportation legislation, regulations and industry standards.
• Strategic leadership for the development of partnerships with key stakeholders, private sector, division counterparts, other ministries and governments including national and international jurisdictions; maintain awareness of current and emerging issues and trends, and to promote industry best practice in transportation safety and compliance.
• Championing a results-based culture for the division that is grounded in a model of collaboration and respect. Builds a workplace environment that facilitates leadership at all levels, promotes engagement, coaches and mentors staff and builds high performance teams with a focus on enabling individual capacity building and succession strategies.
• Senior level advice and expertise to the Deputy Minister. As an executive team member, contributes to the ministry's strategic agenda by fostering a collaborative culture and presenting options and solutions to business challenges.

• You can interpret concepts and principles to make informed decisions that impact road user safety and can communicate these effectively to decision-makers, as well as to stakeholders

Relationship Management and Communications

• You can provide strategic advice and expertise to the Minister and Deputy Minister and other ministry/ government officials on emerging and contentious road safety policy and program issues and implications
