The Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility is committed to helping seniors and people with disabilities stay independent, active, and socially connected. Through targeted supports, policy and program development, cross-government collaborations and strategic partnerships with businesses and not-for-profit organizations, the Ministry supports, develops and delivers policies and public services to improve the quality of life for seniors and people with disabilities. It helps seniors lead safe, engaged, active and healthy lives and improves accessibility and employment for people with disabilities. Acting as an agent for positive change, the Ministry plays a leadership role in advising on the development of government policies and programs that impact seniors and people with disabilities.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AOD) division in the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility is seeking a motivated executive leader who will play a key role in promoting accessibility across the province. The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), AOD, will provide leadership and stewardship of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), while leading the work to remove barriers that prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in their communities. The incumbent will ensure all aspects of legislative and regulatory policy development and implementation, oversight, compliance and enforcement effectively support and meet the communities it serves.

What can I expect to do in this role?

The ADM will engage a broad range of partners and stakeholders across government, agencies, special interest groups, obligated organizations, and other jurisdictions to influence and shape the coordinated approaches in developing a modernized and effective legislative and regulatory approach to policy and standards that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities in Ontario. The ADM will champion and drive the work which will enable Ontarians to lead healthy, independent, and socially engaged lives in their communities. With a collaborative and inclusive mindset, the ADM works horizontally across the organization and with partners to take a population-centred approach to designing policies, programs, and services for people with disabilities.

• You are an experienced executive with superior strategic management to lead, engage and inspire teams to achieve policy and programming goals
• You have exceptional leaderships skills, based on a foundation of resiliency, collaboration, inclusion and mentoring
• You are an inclusive leader who values and creates a culture of diversity, inclusion, accessibility and equity in the workplace

Transformational Leadership

• You have deep experience defining, communicating and enabling a vision for change
• You have proven ability to deliver on transformational change in large and complex organizations, including developing strategies to transform organizational culture
• You can create, influence and leverage change while enabling policy outcomes and program delivery

Stakeholder Engagement and Political Acuity

• You have proven political acuity and ability to manage complex issues with high public profile and scrutiny
• You have demonstrated experience working in a respectful and collaborative manner with marginalized groups
• You are a sophisticated communicator and decision maker who can effectively provide strategic advice and informed recommendations on high profile issues
• You initiate and champion working across organizational boundaries, hierarchies and mandates to achieve results with other senior leaders

Policy and Program Leadership

• You have a thorough understanding of government decision-making process and experience with public sector policy and program development
• You are a seasoned strategic and analytical thinker, and have led the development and implementation of substantive policies, programs and standards that impact change
• You have experience influencing the integration of data analysis and research methodologies into expansive policy and program development
• You have an excellent understanding of the issues and challenges related to systematic issues impacting accessibility, as well as the key stakeholders with which to collaborate
• You have demonstrated success developing and implementing multi year strategies
