What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Ministry Partnerships, as the Director, Aboriginal and Ministry Relationships - Resources/Economic Development, you will:

• Create, enhance, maintain and support formal and informal relationships with Aboriginal leaders, organizations and partners.

• Manage relationships from both the resolution and issues management perspectives.

• Work with Aboriginal leaders and organizations to influence Aboriginal policy development focused on lands, resource and economic development, and consider the effects of proposed government policies and initiatives.

• Work within the Ministry and with other ministries on Aboriginal initiatives, policy and program issues, including providing advice and support to partner ministries.

• Lead and guide a team of partner relations advisors in their role promoting, building and maintaining partnership relations with Aboriginal peoples, their leaders, communities and organizations, while ensuring coordination with other partners.

• Support and promote a productive, professional team environment which fosters a culture of excellence and creates an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible work place.

• Support the Minister for meetings and outreach to Aboriginal communities.

How do I qualify?

Leadership

• You are a solutions driven executive with demonstrated success leading and mentoring diverse teams to achieve collaborative outcomes and resolution of issues.
• You have leadership expertise and experience in Aboriginal affairs, to serve as a credible representative between the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and Aboriginal peoples.
• You have proven expertise in strategic planning, with an emphasis on the design and development of partnership frameworks.
• You promote and demonstrate commitment to diversity, accessibility and inclusiveness.
• You affirm and suport modern controllership and have success in accountablility practices.

Stakeholder Relations and Communications

• You have demonstrated success in positive engagement and promotion of partnerships with Aboriginal organizations.
• You have proven expertise in relationship building and relationship management, including the ability to liaise with and influence diverse internal and external partners.
• You have significant experience in issues management, including the ability to effectively advise senior management on emerging issues, crises, and emergency situations.
• You are an effective communicator, negotiator, and consensus builder, with exceptional judgement and political acuity.
