We need environmental specialists like you to support, coordinate and manage the review of complex source protection plans that are instrumental in ensuring that current and future sources of Ontario's drinking water are protected.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• establish, support, coordinate and manage the review of source protection plans from technical and legislative compliance perspectives
• prepare correspondence and related briefing materials regarding approval or rejection of plans by the Minister
• manage posting on Environment Bill of Rights (EBR)
• identify and manage issues and impacts
• provide program expertise, advice and interpretation to plan implementers including ministries and external stakeholders
• support hearing and appeals processes
• provide expert advice and interpretation of relevant legislation, regulations and policies
• identify opportunities for continuous improvement

How do I qualify?

Environmental Knowledge:

• You know the theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods of environmental studies, protection and management
• You can know environmental legislation (e.g. Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Clean Water Act, Planning Act etc.), related regulations, policies, programs, procedures and practices.
• You know and understand the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) posting process.

Project Management, Program Coordination and Development Knowledge:

• You know the principles and practices of program development, evaluation, management and delivery
• You have program coordination and project management skills and experience
• You are highly organized in order to manage multiple work activities successfully
• You know the principles of risk analysis, assessment and management

Analytical, Problem Solving, Political Acuity and Judgment Skills:

• You can analyze and evaluate complex information
• You are excellent at problem solving and troubleshooting to resolve issues
• You can accurately interpret and apply knowledge of programs, policies and procedures
• You can apply political acuity and excellent judgment when making decisions

Communication and Computer Skills:

• You communicate complex information and concepts in a clear and concise manner to various audiences
• You can draft a variety of written documents and correspondence for external audiences as well as senior management and the Minister
• You work well with others and know how to build consensus and negotiate successfully
• You know how to operate a computer and use software packages (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation, Internet).
• You know the general rules of evidence and court procedures
