What can I expect to do in this role?

In the role of Residence Manager at W. Ross Macdonald School you will:

• lead a team of dedicated staff providing residential school based services including health services for students who are Blind, Visually Impaired and Deafblind
• plan, develop and manage programs which provide social, emotional, life skills and academic support for students who are Blind, Visually Impaired and Deafblind living at a specialized school
• manage financial and human resources to ensure effective service delivery
• develop operational plans and implement changes when necessary to meet the individual needs of the students
• maintain communication and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders

Occasional travel will be required.

How do I qualify?

Leadership skills:

• You have proven management and organizational skills and can provide leadership and direction in the administration of the residential and health services programs for students who are Blind, Visually Impaired and Deafblind.

Related knowledge:

• You have demonstrated knowledge of administrative, financial and budget guidelines, collective agreements, human resources management practices, employment legislation, related policies and directives to manage professional and administrative staff in a unionized environment and prepare and manage the residential school services budget.
• Practical knowledge and understanding of the theories and practices of education delivery with respect to Blind, Visually Impaired and Deafblind students to deliver a full range of residential services and manage complex and sensitive program goals and to participate in program planning and implementation.
• You can interpret and apply related provincial legislation, including Child and Family Services Act, Education Act, Employment legislation and other relevant legislation governing education in Ontario.
• You have knowledge of specialized health care needs of school aged children with medical and multiple exceptionalities such as blindness, visual impairment and deafblindness to participate in the development, implementation and management of specialized health care.

Communication skills:

• You have strong communication, interpersonal and conflict management skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups and resolve conflict, liaise with students, parents, professionals, teaching staff, members of the public, community service support agencies and school board officials
