1) What attracted you to the Ontario Public Service (OPS)?
I was searching for a placement as part of my co-op education program at school (Sheridan College) and discovered an opportunity to apply for the OPS. The job posting intrigued me since it was what I was looking for in a co-op position. It included a vast number of responsibilities and some which I was looking to learn more of.

2) Describe a typical day at work.
I worked with the Ontario Internship Program (OIP) to develop its internet and intranet database and applications. A typical day at work includes responding to general inquiries sent in by various clients, providing authorization for managers to submit proposals, generating reports and statistics on OIP recruitment, managing an extensive database and conducting data analysis on OIP recruitment.

3) What are you most proud of from your public service experience?
a There were many things I was most proud of from my co-op experience including improving my communication, networking and project management skills. My placement gave me the opportunity to manage time and prioritize multiple projects.

4) What has surprised you the most about working for the OPS?
I am most surprised of the people I worked with. I was quite nervous when I first started assuming people were boring and unfriendly. I quickly realized I was wrong. People were extremely friendly and were willing to help me when I needed assistance. On top of that they were dynamic, innovative and very knowledgeable!

5) What advice do you have for a young professional who may be considering a career in the OPS?
I advise young professionals to take a look at the OPS. It is a great opportunity with room to advance and gain a great deal of experience. You get a chance to network, work at different placements and learn how to work as a team with a diverse array of people!
