Before I joined the OPS, I … completed an Honours degree in Kinesiology from Lakehead University. From 1998 to 2002, I worked for a couple disability agencies in the City of Thunder Bay Recreation Department either as a kinesiologist or program coordinator. In 2002, I attended Confederation College to take the Human Resources Management Post Diploma Program and graduated in 2004.

I began my career in… as an intern for the Ontario Internship Program in 2004 within the Human Resource stream. I did my first rotation with the Ministry of Community and Social Services with the Northern region In Thunder Bay as an HR Officer. I did my second rotation with the Ministry of Community and Social Services with the corporate HR Branch in Toronto as an Occupational Health and Safety Assistant till May 2006 when I obtained my current position and first real OPS unclassified position.

And now I am … an assistant HR consultant with the HR Branch with the Ministry of Government Services.

A day in my shoes… deals with correspondence whether it be e-mails and documents, and using WIN (Workforce Information Network) or on the phone providing direct/support and advice to managers within the IT portfolio in areas such as recruitment, classification, position data, grievances and many other areas of HR.

I have chosen to work for the public service because… it is an employer who provides great support, learning and development, networking and career opportunities. I feel fortunate that I have become a member of the public service and hopefully I will remain here for the duration of my career.

The thing that has surprised me the most about working for the OPS is… the vastness in the various kinds of business/services that the Ontario Government provides and the number of people that is required in order to provide these businesses/services in an effective and efficient manner.

Outside of work, my most memorable achievement is/was… competing internationally for Canada from 1986 to 1992 including the 1998 Seoul, Korea Paralympics (won a bronze medal) and the 1992 Barcelona, Spain Paralympics. Also, being an international Boccia referee from 1992 to 1994, and the Assistant National Boccia Coach from 1994 to 1996 which included the 1996 Atlanta, Georgia Paralympics.
