What can I expect to do in this role?

Share your expertise with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, as you: examine and analyze audio/video recordings for the purpose of developing, enhancing and clarifying evidence, and presenting, defending and supporting associated findings in courts of law, as required; undertake research and maintain ongoing research and forensic studies related to the sciences of digital audio processing, digital image processing and video recording technologies, both analog and digital; attend crime scenes and recover evidence using sophisticated audio/video equipment for examination, as required; provide training and guidance to colleagues/front-line officers; assist manager in equipment maintenance and policy as they relate to these sciences.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

knowledge of computer operation, hardware and software maintenance, networking, security, troubleshooting, upgrades, installation, digital video capture technologies and techniques, advanced imaging processing packages, proprietary analog and digital CCTV systems, evidence seizure and processing, the history and mathematics behind the imaging sciences and theories involved in the generation and examination of both analog and digital exhibits with regard to digital image processing; knowledge of procedure journaling, scene protection, security, continuity, handling of evidence/rules of evidence, preparation/presentation of ideas, lesson plans and lectures to various audiences, including colleges and universities, reasoning behind validation of procedures within the forensic sciences; communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to provide expert evidence in court; ability to work collaboratively with investigators, identification units and prosecuting attorneys; analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose system failures, troubleshoot and implement suggested fixes; ability to analyze and interpret images for identification from sometimes poor-quality recordings, and then to review the digital multimedia evidence and form significant conclusions based on scientific methodology, in a high-stress environment; research skills to develop policy to support operational requirements and support existing standard operating procedures; ability to pass OPP background security investigation, and obtain and maintain special constable status.
