Purpose :
To work with members of the OPP in the development and care and provide social work expertise and advice services in the area of mental health, addictions and trauma.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Provides social work services that range from brief solution-focused support, system navigation, to ongoing case management. Provides recommendations and resources related to mental health, addictions and trauma related issues.
2. Develops and delivers and implements solutions to address client needs (at various OPP organizational levels) to mental health, addictions and trauma related issues. This includes building trauma-related resources for OPP members.
3. Works collaboratively with both internal and external partners of the OPP, including but not limited to, all Healthy Workplace team members (e.g. peer support, psychologists, chaplains, and employee family liaisons) to support members
4. Conducts research and analysis within the OPP and OPS to provide current and accurate information to employees, families and managers related to mental health and wellness.
5. Responds to employee and family inquiries in a timely manner providing process and procedural information to assist members in their wellness. This includes counselling and education related to the benefits of self-care, sleep hygiene, and general quality of life supports.
6. Provides assistance and support to members and their families in various human resource matters including illness and injury, employment accommodation and disability management. Supports family members with processes/procedures in the event of an employee/family member death.
Qualifications :
Degree or diploma in Social Work or Social Service Work, or equivalent (e.g. Psychotherapist, Registered Nurse with mental health/addiction specialty, etc.) is required.
Must be registered, and in good standing, with their respective College at the time of application (e.g. OCSWSSW, OCRN, ORPO, etc.)

Knowledge :
Theories, principles, practices and techniques of social work to provide counselling, family therapy and trauma counselling, understanding of theoretical applications and practical interventions and mental health assessment and diagnosis methodologies.
Understanding of human development stages across the lifespan to provide mental health, trauma counselling, family therapy and to provide interpretation and coaching to OPP staff.
Knowledge of community resources across Ontario, and related sectors to engage stakeholders, promote the integration of programs with regional priorities/programs and to identify needs, service gaps and pressures.
Case management techniques and quality standards in order to ensure effective service delivery in accordance with the program and objectives.
Principles and practices of training and development to develop and present training programs within the OPP and for community partner organizations.
Performance measurement, quality assurance and benchmarking to monitor effectiveness, evaluate service efficiency, identify trends and shortfalls; and to make recommendations to support continuous improvements to the program.
Program Responsibility :
Responsible the efficient and effective provision of social work services within the OPP focusing on mental health, addictions and trauma related issues.
Responsible for the leadership, strategic planning, and training skills are required to prioritize, plan, develop and implement strategies and internal programs, tools and best practices; coordinate and lead activities resulting from implementation of modified/improved procedures.
Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, members within the OPP and partner organizations to promote and advance understanding of mental health issues, addictions and trauma related issues.
Analytical Thinking :
Assists in the development, implementation, review and evaluation of health care programs and services to ensure high standards are maintained.
Assesses risks, diagnoses symptoms and makes sound determinations surrounding continued health care and special services needs.

Planning / Coordinating :
Plans and administers the program operations; estimates and recommends financial, material and human resources needs, coordinates operations with other areas of the OPP organization to meet program objectives and provides input to divisional results based and strategic planning processes.
Planns, prioritizes and organizes case load to ensure the effective case management and monitoring of caseload; and to ensures that all required reports and statistics are prepared in a timely manner.
Leadership/Guidance :
Provides clinical oversight of case files ensuring quality of work; identifying contentious issues. Works with families of the OPP staff, providing assistance and support to in various human resource matters including illness and injury, employment accommodation and disability management
Independence of Action :
Position works independently with minimal supervision from the Manager and works independently in performing daily activities exercising judgement and initiative to establish work priorities and resolve issues within established policies, procedures, guidelines and legislation.
Position regularly deals with complex/unique circumstances. Decision-making involves: resolving contentious issues; coordinating work with various stakeholders; facilitating integrated and efficient end-to-end service delivery; and recommending drafting new/revised operational policies and procedures.
Interpersonal/Communication :
Courtesy, professionalism, tact and diplomacy to build rapport with clients, and interface with them in providing information and support to effectively resolve complex issues related with mental health, trauma and addictions. Responding to employee and family inquiries providing process and procedural information to assist members and support family members with processes/procedures in the event of an employee/family death.
Tactical communication skills to maintain composure and adjust behaviour to suit the individual and situation and to diffuse situations when required, adjusting communication style to accommodate resistance from potentially irate, upset clients.
Written communication skills to prepare business reports, trend analyses, briefing notes and recommendations to management on issues, training requirements, and draft new/revised operational procedures and business processes.
Physical Effort :
Most of the time is spent in an office environment with frequent opportunity to move about.
Sensory Effort :
Requires active listening skills in order to understand the full extent of issues, concentration to analyze issues, and ability to multitask and deal with repeated interruptions for urgent requests for information
