Purpose of Position :

To ensure that the modern/historic buildings and grounds at Huronia Historical Parks are maintained to high standards, to provide direction to
maintenance staff/students and to supervise construction and maintenance work as directed. Although incumbent may work primarily at one site
(Discovery Harbour), he/she may be assigned, as required, to work at other sites of Huronia Historical Parks.

Duties / Responsibilities :

- Works under the general direction of the Manager, Discovery Harbour Operations to perform the following duties:
-Provides direction to maintenance crew and maintenance summer students including day-to-day supervision of work assignments and referring all matters pertaining to employee discipline, grievances, overtime authorizations, scheduling time off, etc. to the Manager. Assists the manager with the recruitment of student maintenance staff by participating in interviews.
-Performs a variety of construction trade services to HHP facilities and assists the maintenance team with other maintenance tasks as needed for day to day operations, events, licensed partners, etc. and operates associated vehicles and equipment including but not limited to tractors, trucks, ATVs, snow removal equipment, lawn mowers, etc.
-Provides recommendations about and direction to outside contractors carrying out repairs at the attraction(s) and ensures work is performed in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
-Inspects all buildings, structures, equipment, washrooms on a regular basis to ensure good working order at all times and makes recommendations to Manager for repairs.
-Ensures that all preventative vehicle and equipment maintenance is carried out as per schedules and safe operating practices, initiates repairs and keeps appropriate records; ensures that grounds and facilities are kept clean and coordinates pest control; ensures maintenance of footpaths and roadways; ensures appropriate landscape maintenance e.g., cutting grass, pruning and trimming trees, hedges etc., according to acceptable practices and standards.
-Acts as liaison with Infrastructure Ontario (I/O) and any contracted supplier of services, resolving deficiencies and ensuring scheduled maintenance is complete. (i.e. safety systems, fire systems/mechanical systems, etc.).
-Acts as liaison for security services contracts, maintaining records and providing orientation training to new security companies/guards.
-Acts as main point of contact with licensed partners for repairs to Ministry equipment and to ensure all pre-established maintenance standards are met in accordance with license agreements.
-Ensures all security alarm systems, fire systems and key systems are functional and serviced
-Works with site Manager to plan, design, schedule and implement all construction and/or repair projects and provides input into capital planning needs.
-Assists manager in the development of scope of work for maintenance project procurements and updating of the Asset Management Information System (AMIS). Obtains building permits as needed and maintains records/plans/drawings of work performed.
-Identifies maintenance supply needs and requisitioning materials as required, including estimating materials and labour requirements for specific projects.
-Ensures maintenance staff are provided proper safety equipment and training to perform their duties and requisitioning replacements as required.
-Purchases goods using Ministry purchasing card and/or petty cash, providing delivery and pick up services as required. Maintaining records and reconciling purchases according to Ministry guidelines.
-Performs administrative functions such as managing work orders, maintenance schedules, assisting with maintenance procurements, maintaining maintenance records, using computer for e-mail communications, attendance, internet research for maintenance projects, etc.
-Participates in meetings and training as required.
-Requires a valid class G license to travel between the sites and perform errands.
-Manager has the right to assign additional responsibilities.

General Security Screening (CPIC)

Knowledge :

Job requires knowledge of the construction industry and various trades in order to provide oversight and make recommendations on construction and maintenance projects at the attraction(s). Job requires knowledge of relevant legislation, by-laws and codes associated with maintenance and construction work in order to ensure safety, compliance of maintenance projects and to make recommendations to Management. Job requires knowledge of requirements and processes to obtain various permits and assessments associated with construction work. Job requires knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, and requirements to ensure compliance and worker safety. Job requires working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and use of internet for sourcing maintenance items, project research, etc.

Skills :

Job requires basic skills in various maintenance trades (i.e. carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, welding, etc.) to assist the maintenance team in performing maintenance tasks as well as the ability to safely operate maintenance vehicles and equipment as indicated in job duties. Organizational skills are required to schedule multiple projects without disruption to business, prioritize work demands and to maintain various records for the organization related to the buildings, properties and systems. Leadership skills to work effectively as a team leader with maintenance staff/students and represent HHP with I/O and contractors as needed. Job requires written communication skills and computer literacy to compose routine correspondence/e-mails, manage work orders and develop scope of work for maintenance projects. Job requires oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with contractors and I/O, provide direction to maintenance staff, security guards, etc.

Freedom of Action :

Work is performed under the general direction of the Manager, Discovery Harbour Operations and in accordance with applicable legislation, codes and Ministry/HHP established policies and procedures. Job requires selecting work methods in accordance with relevant legislation, codes, guidelines, etc. and making recommendations to the Manager on maintenance projects. Job requires sensitivity to the tourist attractions "visitors first philosophy" and modifying some work activities accordingly. Work is subject to review and monitoring by Manager for progress and results.
