Job Specification

Purpose of Position :

To provide skilled trades services pertaining to the maintenance at the institution and to provide general mainte nance services and assist other maintenance staff as assigned in a number of trades work

Duties / Responsibilities :

1. 65% Provides general maintenance services in a number of trades, by performing such duties as:- locksmithing, electrical, plumbing, small motor repairs, carpentry and air conditioning;- instructing less qualified staff as assigned in the use of tools and equipment;- assisting other skilled tradesman; - reading blueprints and specifications;- supervising and instructing inmate helpers in tasks assigned reporting on conduct, industry and taking disciplinary action as necessary;- other duties as assigned.2. 35% Provides journeyman level services in welding or other skilled trades on numerous maintenance projects throughout the institution . Note: Incumbent supervises assigned inmate helpers for majority of working time. Salary Note Kl (C.R.A.) is applicable

Staffing and Licensing :

Completion of the required apprenticeship training in one of the skilled trades and certification by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, or acceptable equivalent experience.

Knowledge :

Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks. Knowledge of various systems, electrical, water, etc. Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings. Ability to meet Ministry medical and physical standards and perform the essential duties of the position
