Purpose of Position :

To perform and provide skilled journey-level services and support in the maintenance and repair/replacement of sophisticated and complex utility electrical equipment', controls and systems and to maintain all related process controls in the operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities and required projects.
This position is required to provide electrical support and maintenance in the multiple areas of inspection/examination, installation, design/modification, repair, checking/testing of electrical/electronic manifold equipment, general power and lighting/alarm systems.

Duties / Responsibilities :

• Required to examine, trouble shoot, carry out systematic diagnostic testing of faults/failures, identification, assessment, repairs/service to equipment, fixtures and other electrical components.
• Maintain and operate all electrical distribution systems and related equipment of each facility ensuring efficient operations with minimal disruptions.
• Plans electrical maintenance work making reference to drawings, sketches and specifications.
• Required to dismantle, (re) assemble/install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, service and test electrical and electronic equipment, control panels, circuitry wiring, alarm and lighting systems, motors/transformers and other support systems.
• Performs repairs and/or scheduled maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, components and devices in accordance with established routines, performance history or manufacturers recommendations by: making reference to work orders; troubleshooting and adapting electrical equipment, motors, systems, devices and electrical components of control and monitoring systems.
• Safely lock out and tag out medium and high voltage equipment and switchgear to support maintenance activities and safe work practices.
• Estimating material and resources required to perform on-site electrical repairs and replacement of equipment; maintaining an account of inventory of material and equipment on hand, parts and material used; and, placing orders for replacements as needed.
• Conducts regularly scheduled and ad hoc inspections of a range of equipment such as high and low lift pumps, chemical feed equipment, automatic motorized and manual valves, screening equipment, process equipment such as dual media filters flocculators, and mixers, sludge collection equipment, screening equipment, automatic composite samplers, grit removal units, automatic motorized and manual valves, mixers, air blowers and compressors, digester gas boilers, heat exchangers, gas compressors, flame arrestors, sludge processing equipment by: making visual inspections, using computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (Scada) System; documenting and recording equipment operations, run times, pressure readings and visual and physical checks to ensure all are operating within parameters established.
• Conducts a range of routine maintenance tasks by: inspecting continuous process analyzers (i.e. chlorine, turbity) for proper operation, calibrating and adding reagents if required; testing and operating stand-by equipment such as diesel generator sets and pumps, etc.; cleaning and maintaining work areas, offices, chemical rooms and equipment in a safe and presentable manner; inspecting and repairing fire hydrants, street valves by operating each and flushing, taking pressure readings and flow rates; inspecting and cleaning elevated water towers or reservoirs; hosing tanks and equipment to control odours and insects; undertaking rodent control to protect against damage to lagoon berms and containment areas; inspecting sewage pumping stations for pump operation flow, by-passes, cleaning to remove grease and scum build up to control odours and ensure proper operations; cleaning and inspecting flow or pump control equipment; cleaning bar screens and disposing of screenings; and, reporting work utilizing a computerized preventive maintenance system.
• Performs process analysis and required adjustments for utility plants per the required standards.
• Assists Hub staff with repair and maintenance of equipment (e.g. cleaning debris from pumps and screens, adjusting packing, replacing seals and bearings, repairing leaks in chemical feed systems such as chlorine gas, replacing motors, air filters, drive belts, etc.).
• Provide mentorship and hands-on training to less qualified staff and apprentices; assist with updating preventative maintenance schedules and record logs.
• Provide outside contractors with technical information regarding plant/remote pumping stations/equipment layout and communication briefs concerning preliminary assessment and findings of operations and electrical equipment.
• Responds to alarm situations through after hour response system in accordance with contingency plans.

Staffing and Licensing :

• A valid Ontario Electrician's Certificate of Qualification (Construction and Maintenance and/or Industrial Electrician).
• Registered in good standing as a journeyperson with the College of Trades.
• A valid driver's license and good driving records.

Knowledge :

• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it pertains to Trade Regulations (industrial & construction).
• Sound knowledge of industrial, electrical and electronic instrumentation and control theory, principles and practices and assessment techniques for the selection, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of a wide variety of complex control, monitoring and telemetry communication systems.
• A basic understanding of water and sewage treatment or any other similar type process.
• Good working knowledge of tools and test equipment and maintenance of complex industrial facilities.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from plans and schematic diagrams.
• Working knowledge of electrical and building codes and regulations
• Good knowledge of computerized maintenance management programs for logging maintenance activities and ordering parts.
• Working knowledge of process control equipment in the operations and maintenance of utility plants for water and/or wastewater treatment.
• Effective problem solving and diagnostic skills.

Skills :

• Good verbal and written communication skills to provide technical information and on-the-job assistance to other staff.
• Project management skills to manage contractors and electrical capital works.
• Ability to travel, work overtime and be on-call after regular working hours as part of a rotating schedule.
