Purpose of Position :

To provide project coordination and support to implement initiatives within the Learning and Engagement Branch and to provide analytical and administrative support to the further development of Indigenous consultation and partnership programming.

Duties / Responsibilities :

The Ontario Science Centre provides First Nations communities with access to provincial expertise in the design, construction, operations and maintenance of the Design and Production team. In this context and under the general supervision of the Manager, Design and Production, the position:

1. Provides project planning and implementation in support of the branch's Indigenous initiatives. Coordinates project daily activities, including reviewing and monitoring project progress, including key deliverables, timelines and budgets, and assisting in the assessment of project financial and material requirements.
2. Assists in the development of workshops and preparation of presentations, work plans, briefings and reports according to branch priorities for decision-support materials and other products, as required.
3. Conducts research and analysis of new developments and best practices, including the exploration of potential new training materials and tools, as well as mechanisms for information sharing, tracking and monitoring effectiveness.
4. Participates in the development of standards, processes and performance measures to ensure the efficiency of the branch.
5. Consults and engages with other ministries and clients, including ministry program managers and their staff, toseek input and/or assess feedback collected and to discuss the review/development of processes.
6. Participates in team meetings, committees and working groups to convey and support the development of strategies and approaches in achieving business, decision-making and goals and objectives.

Knowledge :

The position requires knowledge of:
1. Ontario's Indigenous peoples, culture, governance, community perspectives and political dynamics, to work effectively with a team focused on Indigenous issues and to contribute to branch programs and initiatives.
2. Project management theories and methodologies, to assist in the planning and implementation of project activities relating to branch initiatives, including reviewing and monitoring project progress, deliverables, timelines and budgets.
3. Research techniques to conduct research and environmental scans, analyse and compile information/data for the development of standards, processes, new tools/systems, etc.
4. Performance measurement methodologies and evaluation techniques.

Skills :

The position requires:
- Project management and organizational skills, to develop workflow strategies and coordinate day-to-day activities while dealing with competing priorities and tight timeframes, and ability to monitor and report progress, and resolve issues.
- Research skills to gather assess complex and diverse issues with attention to detail.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to provide and exchange information, prepare and present material, participate in meetings, and communicate with stakeholders in a clear, concise, accurate and respectful manner. - Teamwork skills and flexibility to work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team or workgroup, including contributing fully and actively to team activities, projects and client initiatives, to achieve group and organizational goals.
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) to prepare presentations, project plans, reports, etc., and to use the internet and intranet for research and analytical work.

Freedom of Action :

- Acts under the general supervision of the Manager, Design and Interpretation, and provides support to other branch employees.
- Performs day-to-day functions with relative freedom and independence.
- Work is performed within the broad framework of overall policies, guidelines, procedures and branch's business goals and objectives.
- Errors in judgement or recommendations made to the branch Manager, and ineffective information research and analyses, could result in inaccurate and incomplete information and affect project goals and decisions made by the Manager for consideration by the Director.
- Contacts are internal and external, including other OPS ministries and Indigenous organizations, to conduct research, participate in committees/working groups, provide, obtain and share information.
