Purpose of Position :

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Planning & Inventory Coordinator carries out inventory control by utilizing stores requisitions and inventory software, carries out stocking and issuing of aircraft parts for the Aviation Stores facility. Position may also be required to perform general shipping and receiving functions, as required in the absence of the Shipping and Receiving Officer. Ensures customer service is obtained.

Duties / Responsibilities :

1. Carries out inventory control, issues and receiving by:
• Utilizes inventory software to access parts locations and status;
• Carries out inventory and stock verification procedures;
• Follows MNR rules regarding correct parts issuing procedures and documentation;
• Retrieves and issues parts at Stores counter for use by Aircraft Maintenance Engineers;
• Retrieves and issues parts at shipping counter for use by field operations;
• Places parts in proper bins, following receiving and certification process;
• Processes unserviceable parts documents for use by purchasing and internal overhaul shops;
• Carries out equipment/tool testing, calibration and recertification procedures,
• Carries out receiving and shipping functions during holidays, illness and on an on-required basis.
2. Assists in inventory control by processing stores requisitions utilizing the assigned software.
3. Re-inventories and restocks specialty kits, such as flyaway kits, base tools and rabies kits.
4. Completes requisition including part number, amount requested, suggested supplier if available,
delivery date for items not normally stocked. If item is to be shipped direct to field, correct shipping instructions will accompany above.
5. With a working knowledge of inventory systems, receiving serviceable items into stock,
completing computer forms, updating stores catalogues and determines proper stock level and location.
6. Orders aircraft parts, supplies and consumables to maintain stock and as directed by local
Manager.
7. Ensures Material Safety Data Sheets are available for each product received, stored and issued.
8. Controls a wide range of technical tools and testing equipment.
9. Delivery and pick-up of aircraft parts and supplies at shipping locations, bases and retailers, as
required.
10. Receives parts against the appropriate purchase order in the Ministry's financial system as required in the absence of the Shipper and Receiver.
11. Provides assistance as required during peak work periods to the Shipping and Receiving Officer, in shipping parts to field bases, other companies, repair depots, etc.
12. Provides assistance as required during peak work periods to the Shipping and Receiving Officer in processing all incoming and outgoing parts and verifying that parts are labeled and catalogued appropriately to meet regulatory requirements.
Note - position participates on a rotating on-call schedule for Stores functions outside of regular scheduled work hours.
Managers have the right to assign additional duties.
The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor.

Staffing and Licencing :

Valid Class G Ontario Driver's Licence;
Air/ground Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification or the ability to obtain;

Knowledge :

Position requires knowledge of maintenance to understand how to look up and verify aircraft part number, to understand which components are usually repairable and which must be re-ordered. Knowledge of aircraft maintenance is also required to anticipate tools, lubricants and other parts that may have to be shipped when an Aircraft Engineer orders a specific part of the aircraft.
Position requires a working knowledge of inventory systems in order to receive serviceable items into stock, complete appropriate computer forms, update Stores' catalogues, and to determine proper stock level and location.
General understanding of Stores inventory system, parts stocking procedures, and financial systems in order to control inventory and participate in receiving in the Ministry's systems.
Position requires knowledge of Windows-based database software, to receive, issue, control, and to run reports to manage aircraft inventory.
Position requires knowledge of office automation software (MS Outlook, MS Word, and Excel) in order to email manager, determine status of delayed parts orders, to transcribe special orders, to track loaned items and to track stock not kept in the aircraft parts database. Position requires the ability to utilize the Ministry's inventory management software.
General knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements to assist the Shipping and Receiving Officer as required with the import and export of parts.
Knowledge of WHMIS regulations and Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations is required to ensure work place safety information is available to workers.
Knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the OH&S Act.

Skills :

Position requires written communication skills to read and follow the Stores Section of the Ministry's Maintenance Policy and Control Manual to ensure appropriate procedures are followed for the safe and legal functioning of aircraft maintenance; legible writing to place manual parts orders and to fill in shipping forms.
Position requires good communication skills and customer service skills to deal with aircraft maintenance engineers requiring parts, with couriers and shipping agents, with suppliers and with other co-workers.
Position requires the ability to look up, search and interpret aircraft parts manuals to verify part numbers and sub component numbers.
Position requires the ability to lift shipping boxes and aircraft wheels (40 Ibs), to ship parts and wheels to keep aircraft serviceable. Position requires ability to operate, cranes, fork lifts, and other lifting devices to ensure parts are securely stored and properly loaded for transportation.

Freedom of Action :

Position works under the direction of the Maintenance Planning & Inventory Coordinator.
Position works in accordance with ministry policies, guidelines, directives. Position follows established practices and procedures utilizing applicable maintenance and inventory software. Position follows Stores procedures as documented in the Maintenance Policy and Control Manual.
Position requires that unusual matters be referred to the manager, e.g. client/supplier failure to meet commitments.
