Purpose of Position :

To perform housekeeping/cleaning services at CPRI and to maintain the required standards of cleanliness in all designated areas.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Maintain a good standard of housekeeping safety by performing such duties as:
- sweeping, dust mopping and damp mopping floors, stairs, hallways using dust mops, brooms, hand sweepers, damp mops, wringers, buckets and germicidal detergents;
- dusting, washing and polishing furniture, wall hanging objects, fixtures, mirrors, counters, shelving, walls, partitions, lockers, doors, hardware, telephones, pipes, appliance exteriors, cupboard exteriors, radiators, window ledges and sills and equipment using dusting tools, cloths, scouring pads, detergents and chemicals;
- washing smears, smudges using germicidal detergents and cloths;
- washing walls, ceilings, pipes and all types of light fixtures using, if need by, wall washing equipment supplies, chemicals , ladders and scaffolding;
- collecting and removing soiled linen, garbage, laboratory waste, and recyclable materials and placing in central disposal areas;
- washing inside windows panes including sills and ledges
- sanitizing and disinfecting toilets, wash basins, mirrors, bathtubs, showers, soap dispensers, using germicidal detergents, cleansers, cloths and brushes - replenishing washroom supplies, e.g. soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.;
- utilization of special cleaning processes, methods and chemicals for infection control, isolation, and other special cleaning projects

Performs preventative maintenance such as:
- Vacuum and spot clean and shampoo carpets, walk off matting and furniture using vacuums, shampooing equipment, extractors and chemicals;
- buffing, spray buffing, dry and wet scrubbing, stripping, sealing and waxing of resilient and non-resilient floor surfaces and baseboards using floor maintainer, drive pads, wet and dry vacuums, chemicals, wringers, buckets and mops; Performing other related duties such as:
- moving equipment, furniture, appliances and personnel from one location to another using Ministry vehicles and equipment;
- assisting with sweeping and shoveling snow and sand outside;
- reporting any defects of respective housekeeping equipment or building services equipment to Supervisor; - maintaining and cleaning housekeeping equipment and completing reports as scheduled;
- requisitioning cleaning supplies through Supervisor;
- attending department and facility meetings, training sessions and lectures;
- replacing fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs;
- assist in transportation, taking vehicles in for service, cleaning cars, checking fluid levels and emergency equipment, recording odometer reading
- removing and installing drapes for cleaning, replacing broken runners on drapery tracks using ladders - other duties as assigned

Knowledge :

Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials and methods; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-directed as well as part of a team/communicate well with colleagues and clients; flexibility to perform duties on weekdays and weekends; ability to perform the physical requirements of the position; knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety Standards.
