Purpose of Position :

To apply research and analytical skills to support the review, analysis and development of policies related to MNR's mandate as delivered through involvement in municipal planning.
To contribute and participate in specific planning processes that are being led at the provincial level.
To support capacity building initiatives and service delivery enhancements related to MNR's role in Municipal planning.

Duties / Responsibilities :

• Assisting with research on, and analysis of, planning policy issues, including inter-jurisdictional research.
• . Support the Provincial Policy Statement review and assist in the development of support materials and performance indicators for provincial policies and plans
• Assist in compiling and analyzing information to support internal projects including the Municipal Planning Data Review project
• Assist in the development and delivery of training on MNR planning support materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

NOTE: The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the OH&S Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor and in accordance with the Internal Responsibility System as outlined in the OH&S Act.

Staffing and Licencing :

n/a

Knowledge :

• Knowledge of one or more of land use planning geography, environmental management and resource management;
• Knowledge of policy research and analysis techniques;
• Understanding of land use and resource management issues related to MNR;
• Knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the OH&S Act;
• Demonstrated ability to use computer software including word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations and database packages;

Skills :

• Well developed interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment;
• Ability to undertake and balance multiple tasks & shifting timelines;
• Ability to research, analyze, assess and report on complex and diverse issues, with an attention to detail
• Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software) and internet capability

Freedom of Action :

• Acts under the general guidance and direction of the Manager, Natural Heritage and Land Use Planning
• Provides direct support to Natural Heritage and Land Use Planning staff in a variety of priority policy initiatives
• Performs day-to-day functions with relative freedom, generally in a task-team oriented environment
• Can be expected to provide regular reports on project status.
