Purpose of Position :

To assist aggregate resource staff with the monitoring and auditing of aggregate resource extraction activity and administer requirements of the Aggregate Resources Act and regulations.

Duties / Responsibilities :

1. Assist with the review of all licence/ permit application information and assisting with conducting on site investigations to determine impact and ensuring consistency of proposals with the established District aggregate resources plan;
? assist with ensuring compliance with requirements of the Aggregate Resources Act, regulations and policy;
- assist with the preparation of reports indicating recommendation for approval, denial or modification to the licence application and any conditions;
- assist with the monitoring approved aggregate extraction sites, to assess compliance with the Aggregate Resources Act, regulations, conditions and the site plan;
- assist with the investigation of problems related to pits and quarries (including illegal operations);
- assist with the preparation of regular reports regarding the status of all sites in the district, including annual statistical data on production and compliance.

2. Assists with policy and program analysis and development of the Aggregates Section by:
- Assists with the collection, organization and analysis of data;
- Assists with identifying deficiencies in data and recommending appropriate acquisition of data;
- Assists with the organizing, procurement and appropriate display of data (e.g. GIS)
- assisting aggregate resources staff with communications efforts (e.g. publications, news releases, displays, internet/intranet information);
- assisting in preparing presentations for the section;
- assisting with the development of planning policies and manuals for use by Ministry , other Crown agencies, municipal governments responsible for aggregate resource planning and management.
- Assist in organizing and developing training sessions for other agencies

3. Performs other duties as assigned.

NOTE: The incumbent shall, while in the workplace, conduct themselves in compliance with the OH&S Act and any workplace practices as directed by their immediate supervisor and in accordance with the Internal Responsibility System as outlines in the OH&S Act.

Staffing and Licencing :

Valid MTO drivers licence

Knowledge :

- Technical knowledge as well as the theory and practice of geological and earth science principles.
- Job requires broad understanding of aggregate resource management including relevant legislation, policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of computer software packages including MS-Excel, MS Word, MS Access, ARC/Info.
- Familiarity with land use issues.
- Knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the OH&S Act.

Skills :

- Job requires good verbal and written communication skills, including good presentation skills;
- Job requires good interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Ability to coordinate projects and schedule/meet deadlines.

Freedom of Action :

? Job requires working under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures and methods with work being reviewed for accuracy.
? Matters not covered by established procedures/guidelines are referred to manager.
