Do you want to lead Ontario's technology transfer efforts in the assessment of practices, products and research related to business finance?

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with knowledge of agricultural business finance and agricultural economics to develop expert leading edge information and educational materials that will help clients along the agricultural value-chain improve their competitive position.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• act as the lead provincial specialist in the development and promotion of information and tools in the areas of farm and agricultural business financing, financial management and analysis, capital and business investment, farm taxation, and business structures and arrangements for agricultural businesses along the value-chain
• research and verify leading agricultural economic research and business practices from around the world and adapt the findings to Ontario industry needs
• facilitate industry change through educational and awareness building tools such as publications, media releases, social media, speaking engagements, training workshops and one-on-one meetings with business managers

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

• In order to conduct site visits at rural and remote locations, you must have the ability to travel in areas not serviced by public transportation.

Industry knowledge:

• You have knowledge of scientific theories, principles and practices of agricultural production, farm and agricultural business finance, financial management and analysis, agricultural economics, capital and business investment, farm business management, farm taxation and business structures and arrangements as it applies to Ontario agriculture.
• You have knowledge of the agricultural industry, farming and the agricultural value-chain including its economic significance, social importance and the roles and mandates of farm and commodity organizations.

Research, analysis and problem-solving skills:

• You have analytical and problem-solving skills to assess information, education and training needs of agricultural clients.
• You have analytical and evaluative skills to investigate issues, new trends and developments related to business finance.

Consultation and consensus-building skills:

• You have knowledge of techniques and methods of adult education to develop and deliver educational and training materials.
• You have tact, diplomacy and consensus-building skills to establish and enhance partnerships, coalitions and networks.

Other important skills:

• You have verbal and written communication skills to deliver information in a clear, concise and logical manner.
• You have planning and coordination skills to effectively manage project activities and resources.
