Bring your knowledge of environmental sciences and pesticide management to the Ministry of the Environment where you will help develop pesticide management policy and legislation for the protection of human health and the environment in Ontario!

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Conduct a variety of scientific and analytical services to administer the pesticides management program;
• Provide scientific knowledge and advice on pesticides and their management;
• Review and assess scientific information and prepare reports;
• Assist in developing strategies and programs for the management of pesticides;
• Promote sustainable pest management policies;
• Respond to a range of customer inquiries;
• Explain the legislation governing pesticides in Ontario.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a Bachelor of Science degree in a scientific discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience related to pesticides management.
• You are able to travel on an occasional basis to attend meetings and conferences across Ontario.

Knowledge of Environmental Toxicology

• You have general knowledge of the principles of toxicology and environmental impact.
• You have an understanding of the properties governing the behaviour of pesticides in the environment.

Analytical, Evaluative, and Reasoning Skills

• You have analytical and evaluative skills to identify and address scientific problems.
• You have experience in interpreting scientific data and searching, reviewing and summarizing technical information.
• You have reasoning skills to problem-solve, develop solutions and work on issues that are contentious or politically sensitive in nature.
• You are able to interpret and apply relevant policy, regulations and legislation pertaining to pesticides.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have oral communication skills to explain technical and scientific information in a concise manner.
• You have written communication skills to write reports while working under time constraints.
• You have interpersonal skills to provide effective customer service.

Computer Proficiency

• You have knowledge of personal computer-based software applications including word processing, spreadsheets and power point.
