What can I expect to do in this role?

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Career Development Bureau of the OPP seeks a qualified member to assist in the development of programs, training initiatives, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and course training standards on Disability Management matters, primarily related to Accommodation, Return to Work, WSIB, LTIP, operational stress injuries (OSIs) and mental health matters. To identify trends, gaps and issues and develop proactive approaches to support the implementation of programs related to overall disability management and wellness in the OPP, which includes but is not limited to well-being and healthy workforce initiatives.

How do I qualify?

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Position requires knowledge of:

Human resource management theories, principles, practices, trends and strategies to help implement wellness programs, activities, projects/initiatives. This includes governing acts, legislation and regulations related to assigned portfolio, such as, Ontario Human Rights Code, Public Service of Ontario Act, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, various Collective Agreements, OPS policies/directives (e.g. Respectful Workplace Policy, Attendance Management Program, IIEA, Performance Management, Compensation Directive, Pay onAssignment policy, etc) and relevant case law in order to consult and provide advice.

Current and emerging trends and issues in the mental health/wellness community (CISR/PS, early intervention, mental health training programs, etc), policing, emergency services and other workforces to assist with the implementation of current and relevant programs.

Program analysis and evaluation methodologies and techniques to assess the effectiveness of new/changed policies and programs; and to provide recommendations on policy and program change.

Police employee and family culture and structure, programs and services.

Policies and protocol to support program development.

Ability to:
Apply facilitation and presentation techniques/approaches to coordinate, develop and deliver educational/training materials.

Apply research and evaluation skills to participate on project teams to identify and investigate legislative policy and program issues, research/analyze case information and develop effective case management strategies, initiatives and solutions to support case resolution and legislative/program compliance.

Apply analytical and problem solving skills to conduct analysis, determine/recommend appropriate action to identify barriers to case resolution and develop/interpret conclusions for program application.

Consult, negotiate and use interpersonal and communication skills to provide expert advice on sensitive and confidential legislative, corporate policy, program and related issues, develop and present reports,
recommendations and proposed guidelines/best practices, draft procedures, briefing notes, reports and educational materials and discuss trends/developments with program management and other agencies.

Influence others in order to achieve desired results by building support and commitment to adopt a specific course of action.

Ability to demonstrate cooperation within and beyond own team.
