Are you a spiritual leader who is interested in cultivating a worshipping community within an institution by maintaining a comprehensive multicultural chaplaincy program for inmates, their families, and staff?

If so, bring your specialized skills to the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre where you will provide spiritual and religious care and support to large groups in addition to providing one-on-one assistance to inmates.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• use your specialized education to provide ongoing comprehensive religious services and spiritual care programs to inmates, their families and staff
• create new programs and coordinate spiritual activities
• coordinate and monitor a busy and involved multi-faith program
• build relationships and partnerships with community resources
• partner with local faith communities to establish programs to help inmates reintegrate into the community
• represent chaplaincy on institution committees

How do I qualify?

Mandatory Requirements

• You must have an endorsement from a recognized Faith Group and recommendation from the Canadian MultiFaith Federation on Spiritual and Religious Care

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

• You have applied knowledge of various faith groups, multidenominational groups, as well as religious beliefs and practices, normally acquired through a combination of university, theological school, and professional experience
• You have understanding of the criminal justice system and familiarity with correctional institutions
• You are able to work within the legislation (e.g. to balance confidentiality with the need to maintain security and the safety of staff and inmates)

Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can interact with inmates, families, and staff as well as orient and train volunteers
• You have counselling skills to address issues with inmates and families

Other Essential Skills

• You have organizational and supervisory skills to plan, organize, implement and evaluate spiritual care programs and religious services
• You have administrative skills to provide guidance and training students and other spiritual and religious visitors
• You have analytical skills and demonstrated judgement in order to identify and resolve issues, referring any major issues to the Deputy Superintendent
