If financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting expertise are among your talents, consider this opportunity with the Financial Management Branch in the Ministry of Health and Long- Term Care, where you will provide financial reporting and controllership services.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position you will:

• Conduct financial analyses and budget monitoring to ensure management and control of budgetary funds
• Monitor the expenditures/revenues of assigned program areas and provide financial analyses, planning and forecasting of expenditure/revenue accounts
• Develop and maintain information and reporting systems, ensuring currency, integrity and reliability of budget information and compliance with government/ministry policies and audit requirements
• Support the branch and ministry forecasting process through the financial planning cycle and analyze and report on variances
• Provide financial information and advice/guidance on financial policies, processes, and procedures
• Liaise with program managers and working group committees to support the development of business plans and review accounting and financial management reporting standards and guidelines

How do I qualify?

Financial Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP), including accrual accounting practices, modern controllership, financial management and reporting
• Familiarity with corporate financial and accounting policies, procedures and practices in order to advise program areas on accrual accounting rules and on recording accounting transactions
• Ability to assess financial and non-financial data; identifying financial and administrative management issues and emerging concerns

Analyzing / Problem Solving Skills:

• Ability to analyze, interpret and assess financial information in response to requests and provide appropriate recommendations to senior management
• Proven expertise in evaluating trends, standards and policies using various sources of information to identify impacts and to develop financial options
• Experience assessing financial and program-related information to ensure accuracy and/or realign data
• Prioritization skills to respond to multiple requests within short deadlines
• Ability to handle unexpected changes to deadlines and priorities due to senior management information requests

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Demonstrated collaboration skills to work with colleagues to address issues and meet deadlines
• Enhanced presentation skills to provide explanations and direction on financial issues, tools and processes
• Consultation and relationship building skills to develop and maintain working relationships
• Expertise providing technical guidance to program managers and staff regarding financial policies, processes and procedures
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to prepare materials and correspondence, provide advice, respond to queries

Computer Proficiency:

• Familiarity with financial information systems (e.g., IFIS) and applications used in the processing and analysis financial/budget information
• Working knowledge of standard office software in order to monitor accounts, analyze financial data, prepare reports, correspondence and spreadsheets
