Are you interested in leading an effective, complex, operational organization responsible for the protection of people, communities, and natural resources? If so, consider this exciting opportunity with Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch where you will lead a team focussed on the delivery and continuous improvement of provincial field operations, safety and training, aerial fire operations, and logistics.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As the General Manager of Response and Operations, you will:

• Lead the coordination of strategic planning, program evaluation, and continuous improvement across all operational aspects of forest fire management and emergency response.

• Manage and coordinate response to forest fire and emergency situations through the Ministry's Emergency Operations Centre.

• Build and maintain key relationships with other areas/levels of government – inside Ontario and across North America – to ensure this highly operational program is effective year-round, and during the highest levels of escalation.

• Lead the implementation of the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) Health and Safety Management Program.

• Build and promote a culture based on the core values of safety, leadership, learning, and effectiveness and create an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible work place.

• Lead and manage provincial projects to support the improvement of the province's forest fire and emergency response practices.

• You have demonstrated experience directing and coaching a diverse team of staff in order to meet business priorities and operational needs in a high volume environment.
• You affirm, promote and demonstrate commitment to safety, leadership, diversity, accessibility and inclusion.
• You have experience leading large teams of professionals with varying skillsets.

Relationship Management & Political Acuity

• You are a strong relationship manager and have experience developing and maintaining key partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• You have strong political acuity, issues management and problem solving skills.
• You have strong and effective communication, negotiation and conflict management skills to build credibility with colleagues, stakeholders and senior executives.

Knowledge

• You are familiar with forest fire and emergency management principles and practices.
• You have experience delivering programs, including performance measurement and continuous improvement.
• You have a track record of success in managing complex operations projects and programs.
