The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking a strategic, innovative and results-oriented leader. The Manager, Natural Resources Information Section will play a key role in the delivery of an information management system and development of analysis services to support the government/ministry strategic objective to protect and sustain Ontario's forests, fish and wildlife populations, biodiversity and habitats and provincial natural heritage sites.

The Science and Research Branch is responsible for providing science as a service to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. This is done by leading, coordinating and delivering the ministry's applied research and provincial inventory, monitoring and reporting. The branch is comprised of staff who are located across the province and are dedicated to producing sound science to inform the ministry's resource management policy and decision making.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this impactful role you will:

• Lead the development and delivery of provincial natural resources information inventory systems, provincial forest inventory program and Natural Heritage Information Centre.

• Ensure the establishment of effective statistical inventory design and field data collection methods.

• Manage the delivery of verification tools and techniques to validate the quality of forest resource inventory data.

• Lead the development of information management policies, quality control procedures, staff training programs and inventory guidelines and standards.

• Provide strategic advice, expertise and briefings to the Director, Assistant Deputy Minister, and offices of the Deputy Minister and Minister.

• You have proven experience leading a team of professional staff to deliver on program development and implementation.
• You have experience leading the planning and delivery of information monitoring, management and analysis.
• You have effectively managed and developed large operational and project budgets.
• You are an inclusive leader who values, supports and demonstrates a commitment to a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace.

Partner and Stakeholder Management and Communication Skills

• You have experience building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders in various sectors.
• You have effective communication skills to lead consultations with partners and stakeholders and respond to complex and sensitive issues.
• You have demonstrated success using collaborative techniques to cultivate and sustain effective relationships with Indigenous communities.
• You have demonstrated experience providing sound, strategic advice and delivering briefings to executives and senior management.

Knowledge

• You have knowledge of information management systems and data management methodologies.
• You have knowledge of a diverse range of scientific theories, methods and practices.
• You have knowledge of natural resources, forest, fish and wildlife, biodiversity and habitats and provincial natural heritage policies and programs.
• You have an understanding of government direction and ministry priorities for effective forest and natural resource management.
• You have procurement and acquisition experience, including best practices and procedures.
